I don’t know about you but I just don’t seem to have enough time in the day to do what needs to be done.

Nonetheless I can spend an hour or two rummaging through my emails or some other mindless pursuit like Facebook!

Needless to say that at the end of the day there just is not enough time to do it all especially to do the important things like spending quality time with the family.

Poor planning and time management seem the obvious causes.

Today I discovered a very interesting aspect of this conundrum. On the weekend I attended a half day seminar called Emotional Time – A New Understanding Of Time And Success presented by Carl de Wet.

Carl is a longstanding friend and mentor with a psychology background and a number of years experience in the corporate world.

Carl drew a distinction between ‘clock’ time and emotional energy. I was more than surprised as it was like comparing apples to rocks! When he explained that it was the emotional energy that is the driver of time rather than the physical time itself, things began to fall into place. I realized that you could have all the ‘clock’ time in the world but if you lacked the EMOTIONAL energy to use it then additional/planned time had little value!

The epiphany that I had this morning was that, in order to get this day to be more productive I needed to access my emotional energy. Suddenly I did not feel so overwhelmed. In fact felt more empowered.

How so?

Well I received a disturbing phone call a short while ago and sitting here and writing this blog, I noticed my agitation. Eureka! I was leaking emotional energy. By simply making this connection I felt in charge of myself and a lot less energy left my body.

A bit touchy-feelly?

I suppose so – but it worked!
